LUCAS is an independent magazine that wants to bring a young perspective to culture, conflicts and life in Menorca, as well as introducing a contemporary editorial design culture to the island. Each issue, published annually on print and digital mediums, explores a monographic theme related to Menorca not only through its contents, but also through its physicality. The magazine also aims to create a network of creatives with some link to the island.
The last issue, #3 Tenim gana, has food as its backbone, exploring where, what and how we eat on the island and how this connects us with who we are.
The second issue, #2 Paradís estacional, took its title from a song by a local music group called Verlaat, who often talk about life in Menorca in a realistic way, showing the good and the not so good. In this case, the magazine showed the contrasts between winter and summer in Menorca, extremely conditioned by touristic seasons.
This was the first issue published in print, and it was sold out in three days after its presentation. It was a clear indication that a publication like this was missing in a place like Menorca.
The first issue, #1 Som noltros, talked about Menorcan identity, how we feel about it and how we express it. The content waas based on interviews with young people from Menorca, simply for being from there, or because they are also doing some creative activity, such as music, photography, cinematography, etc. These interviews shared space with portraits photographed by me or by the visual creations made by the interviewed.
For this first number, a prototype with The Newspaper Club was printed, which was part of the exhibition “Number Zero. Building a Magazine” in EINA Barra de Ferro, Barcelona.
